Tadalafil goes to work fast (in as little as 30 minutes in some men) and can work up to 36 hours, so you can take it at the time that works best for you. For example:
- You can take tadalafil pills and be ready to respond in as little as 30 minutes.
- You can take tadalafil pills in the morning and be ready to respond to sexual stimulation later that day, that evening or sometime the next day.
- You can take tadalafil at dinner and be ready to respond that evening, the next morning, or the next night.
Tadalafil may be taken up to once per day by most patients. And because sexual stimulation is required for tadalafil to work, you respond to your partner only when the moment is right.
With tadalafil pills, you don't need to plan around meals or avoid high-fat foods because the absorption of tadalafil is not affected by food. You can eat and drink like you normally do, but do not drink alcohol in excess when taking tadalafil (for example, 5 glasses of wine or 5 shots of whiskey). This combination may increase your chances of getting dizzy or lowering your blood pressure.
Take tadalafil exactly as your doctor or other healthcare professional prescribes. Your doctor will prescribe the dose that is right for you.
Like all medications, tadalafil may have some side effects . The most common side effects with tadalafil pills are headache, upset stomach, back pain, and muscle aches. These side effects usually go away after a few hours. Patients who get back pain and muscle aches usually get it 12 to 24 hours after taking tadalafil. Back pain and muscle aches usually go away by themselves within 48 hours. Call your doctor or other healthcare professional if side effects continue to bother you.
As with any ED tablet, in the rare event of priapism (an erection lasting more than four hours), seek immediate medical help to avoid long-term injury.
In rare instances, men taking prescription ED tablets (including tadalafil) reported a sudden decrease or loss of vision. It's not possible to determine if these events are related directly to the ED tablets or to other factors. If you have a sudden decrease or loss of vision, stop taking any ED tablet and call your doctor right away.
